Visualizing Cultural Differences: Design and the HIV/AIDS Crisis

Join Curator of Graphic Intervention, Elizabeth Resnick, Professor and Chair of the Graphic Design Department at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, as she discusses the emergence of the poster as a medium of information and its role in promoting AIDS awareness and safe sex education across cultures. Immediately following the lecture, you are invited to a reception at MODA honoring the exhibition curators. Wine and light snacks will be served at the reception. Attendees will have the opportunity to see the exhibition, as well as to meet its curators.

About Elizabeth Resnick: Elizabeth Resnick is Professor and Chair of the Graphic Design Department at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Boston, Massachusetts. Elizabeth is a passionate design curator who has developed and organized design exhibitions since in 1991. Her latest exhibition,“Graphic Intervention: 25 Years of International AIDS Awareness Posters 1985–2010” organized with co-curator Javier Cortés is currently on display at the Museum of Design, Atlanta. Her previous exhibition, “The Graphic Imperative: International Posters for Peace, Social Justice and The Environment 1965–2005” organized with co-curators Chaz Maviyane-Davies and Frank Baseman, successfully traveled for 5 years within the U.S and abroad. Elizabeth’s book publications include “Design for Communication: Conceptual Graphic Design Basics (2003) and “Graphic Design: A Problem-Solving Approach to Visual Communication (1984)
