"Good is the Greatest Enemy of Great."
Congrats to each of you on being selected into the class of 2012 graduating Graphic Design Majors at Georgia State University. You should be proud of your accomplishments thus far and now the real work begins...but it should be fun.
Remember that the work you will be doing this first year just might be the work that lands you that desired summer internship, freelance or even your first job after graduation... so make it creative and competitive.
It is never too soon to start thinking about where you might want to intern so go ahead and start your search. I'll have the seniors come in and discuss their experiences this past summer with their internships. Remember that everyone has a different experience with an internship. It is NOT always the fault of the client you choose that the internship was good or bad. You are an integral part in that success and failure of the process. Do your homework and find just the right fit for next summer. Be curious and investigate places that interest you both locally, nationally and even internationally.
Good luck this semester and I'm happy to be in class with everyone who was chosen by the Graphic Design Committee. It doesn't matter if you were chosen unanimously or if you were the very last person selected...the fact is that you are here. After the dust settles remember that the playing field is level and everyone has the same chance at success or failure. There were no mistakes made regarding our choice for you to be here. The selection process was very interesting and we can discuss it in detail if you wish. I have notes from the process which I can share with each of you as we move into the semester. Be Fearless with your concepts. Leave no stone unturned as you design. Experiment more and shake off the mundane and the expected. You are the future designers from which others will compare themselves. Make good decisions and work hard after all the work you are doing now is for your future...not for a grade and not for the instructor.
Do your best.
